Healing the Children, in partnership with Group Health Global Health and Can Tho University, provides Medical Education and Surgical Teams in Cần Thơ,  Vietnam .  Dr. Rob Getler, long time volunteer with Healing the Children, provides leadership for our work in Vietnam  -  “ The Education Exchange is growing rapidly (there will be about 15-20 folks participating in our Oct 2011 trip and I'm starting to book folks for the Apr 2012 trip.”

Cần Thơ  is the biggest city in the Mekong Delta. The city is located on the south bank of the Hậu River, the bigger branch of the Mekong River.  It is 169 km from Hồ Chí Minh City, Vietnam’s largest city.

Dr. Gerlter reports:  “There will likely be a hand surgery team working in conjunction with the Education Exchange group.  In more depth-   in addition to a bunch of non-surgical specialists (ob/gyn, internal medicine, neonatology, anesthesiology, and several nursing specialties), there will also be two hand surgeons, a hand therapist, and an anatomist who are planning extensive education activities including didactic lectures, clinic sessions, cadaver dissections and cadaver surgery demonstration.  And, if we are able to secure funding, we will also do surgery on a significant number of patients with financial need while our surgeons work side-by-side with orthopedic surgeons from Can Tho U.“
